The Global Compact is a network-based initiative which aims to promote responsible corporate citizenship and enlists the support of the business sector in achieving a more sustainable and equitable global economy. Currently there are more than 5000 companies signed up to the Global Compact with 47 Global Compact national networks. Today, thousands of companies from all regions of the world, international labour and civil society organizations are engaged in the Global Compact, working to advance ten universal principles  "We need business to give practical meaning and reach to the values and principles that connect cultures and people everywhere."
